PAPUA NEW GUINEA & NEW BRITAIN IN STYLE
A new 2017 itinerary with Phil Gregory to explore the endemic birds and specialties of New Britain in addition to numerous highlights on the main island of New Guinea itself.

Our new itinerary features a bevy of great birds while based at some wonderful sites, from the main island's Rondon Ridge, Ambua, Karawari, and Lake Murray lodges (this last in the Fly River area) to Walindi Resort on offshore New Britain.

Rondon Ridge is a beautifully designed lodge in a very scenic spot overlooking Mt Hagen in the highlands of New Guinea. Another highland stop on our route is Ambua, the well-known birding destination we have been visiting since the 1980s. Karawari Lodge, on the other hand, is in an amazing lodging perched atop a river bluff and looking out across the vast Sepik lowlands on the northern slope of the main island, with the main building designed to resemble a Sepik spirit house ("haus tambaran"). It is a good site for the fabulous Twelve-wired Bird-of-paradise, and we even have a chance there for the immense Victoria Crowned-Pigeon.

Lake Murray Lodge is a new lodge built in the Fly River lowlands of southern New Guinea, and it will allow us access to a very different set of habitats, with chances for Fly River Grassbird, Black Munia, and Campbell's Fairywren, among other local specialties.

Walindi Resort is a famous dive resort on the island of New Britain located in a very good area for birding, where we'll have opportuntities to see many of New Britain's specialty birds: Black-headed Paradise-Kingfisher, Blue-eyed Cockatoo, Song Parrot, New Britain Boobook, Buff-bellied Munia, and New Britain Friarbird, as well as the more widespread Nicobar Pigeon.
