April 2012 E-mailing
Hello, all! We're excited about the weeks ahead, from migration tours across North America to trips to Scotland, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Greece. Below we have
tour updates through October, newly posted itineraries and trip reports, and images from the field in a fresh Costa Rica slideshow plus our April recent photos gallery. Samples at left are from both! Hints for you: Thailand, Costa Rica, Brazil, Colombia, and Arizona -- our usual cheat sheet is below. Enjoy!

_Arizona: first spring or second?
Montezuma QuailOur upcoming spring migration tours are full with the exception of 3 spaces on our Arizona: Birding the Border II tour, May 18-27 with Dave Stejskal--your "first" spring choice, coming up. And what's this about a "second" spring, you ask? Well, in Arizona, you can double up! We've got two great monsoon-season trips, when birds will be busy singing and breeding, Jul 28-Aug 6 with John Coons and Aug 4-13 with Megan Crewe.

_Fresh pics: Costa Rica 2012 slideshow
Fiery-throated HummingbirdWhether you've been to Costa Rica or hope to go, you'll enjoy a slideshow of new photos by guide Megan Crewe from her recent Costa Rica tour...everything from a quetzal and motmot to a thorntail and sabrewing. Oh, and brilliant! Check it out here. Megan heads back March 16-31, 2013.

_Guide & bird news: events & Ethiopia
Going to be in Massachusetts or Cape May mid-May? Bret will be giving his talk on Brazil & Peru: New Birds in Old Places at the Hampshire Bird Club on May 14. Megan is slotted to co-lead CMBO's Spring Shorebirds and Southern Breeders two-day workshop, May 14-15, with Pete Dunne if there are enough registrations. Both events are great opportunities to catch up with Bret or Megan...or get to meet them!

Stresemann's Bush-CrowAnd with our 2012 Ethiopia tour coming right up, this fascinating news about one of Ethiopia's biggest birding prizes, Stresemann's Bush-Crow, caught our eye. Surprising and truly "cool" bird news. Read on...

_Pribilofs & Denali: just a few spaces
Tufted PuffinAlaska: a thrilling seabird spectacle on the Pribs and the amazing landscape, birding, and wildlife of Denali. We've got 4 spaces on our May 30-June 7 departure with Chris Benesh and Jesse Fagan, and just one space on our June 6-14 trip with George Armistead and Megan Crewe.

_"Manu Manu!" (as Mork might have said...)
Dan LaneGuide Dan Lane's twist on Mork's expression made us chuckle when he sent in this piece about his upcoming summer tours to the magnificent Manu in Peru: Manu Wildlife Center, Jul 2-14, and Mountains of Manu, Jul 21-Aug 5. If you get the Mork reference above, you'll smile too, and if you don't it might be time to dig back into the TV archives. Don't miss Dan's piece here...

_Brazil's Rio Roosevelt
Santa Rita rapids, Rio RooseveltIf you want to channel Teddy R's adventurous spirit -- while seeing some amazing wilderness from a wonderful lodge, not to mention a whole bunch of fantastic birds (several of which have yet to be described!) -- you're in luck as there is one spot open with Bret for this Dec 14-27, 2012 tour. For more check out the itinerary and Bret's most recent triplist.
