| Greetings, birders! It's March, and we are so ready for spring! If you're antsy to get away too, we have five spaces still open on April tours (1 on Rio Roosevelt, 1 on Alta Floresta/Pantanal, 3 on S. Carolina), and six in May (2 on China, 3 on Uganda, 1 on Part I of Alaska I). You can see the complete listing of open spaces for April through September tours below.  Guides Jesse Fagan and Dan Lane are featured in action during the December 2013 World Birding Rally Challenge in Peru in this entertaining episode of host James Currie's Nikon Birding Adventures TV series. It's the "Motmot" and "Barbet" having a great time for a week with fellow Team Field Guides member Fernando Angulo as they go from the Amazonian lowlands to famed Machu Picchu aiming for the first-place trophy. The episode runs just under 22 minutes, with the first three or so introducing the event. Jesse first speaks on camera at about 3:55, and he and Dan are featured in much of the rest of the footage. It's well done...enjoy! (Dennis Osorio captured the smilin' team pic above.)
 And what about the movies? Having heard about a new birding film, guide Marcelo Padua discovered the trailer for the upcoming A Birder's Guide to Everything. What should appear displayed at left in the background 42 seconds in? One of our Field Guides catalogs with participant Kevin Heffernan's beautiful Powerful Woodpecker image! Kudos to Kevin for a great pic that caught their eye. This looks to be a fun movie about birding and coming of age. You can see the trailer here to test your spotting skills! |

 Do you recall the Club-winged Manakin story? It's worth revisiting, especially with some very cool, short clips to watch. Check out the 13-video series at singingwings.org. The first few explain the mechanics of how the males make their amazing sounds, while the last few explain how it all might have come to be (hat tip to Cornell Lab's eNews for the link). And of course, many of you have seen these wonderful performers yourselves with us on our Montane Ecuador, Jewels of Ecuador, and Ecuador Rainforest & Andes tours. Cool birds!
