The Black-throated Tit below is a sample of the recent photos contributed to the gallery by guide Doug Gochfeld from our Vietnam tour, and there are many more from participants and guides. Updates: AK Fall Goldmine, slideshows, Doug & Cory

Here are a few updates we think you’ll find of interest:
1 — The full itinerary for our revised Barrow fall tour, now titled ALASKA FALL GOLDMINE: ROSS’S GULLS IN BARROW & RARITIES ON ST PAUL is online here and the tour page here. Guides Tom Johnson and Doug Gochfeld, with lots of combined Alaska experience, are psyched about the addition of the Pribilofs to complement the Ross’s Gull experience…it should be a great adventure with the possibility of some exciting surprise birds!
2 — We have incorporated some fun, short new slideshows of recent trip highlights into some of our tour pages. The slideshows should auto-play when you load the page, and each has a link below it where you can view a larger version. Tour pages with these new shows include the following:
3 — Have you met new guides DOUG GOCHFELD and CORY GREGORY? Doug and Cory have been getting rave reviews on post-tour evaluations this past year, and they each have a full docket of tours for 2017 and 2018. Our February newsletter issue, now online at this link, has Page 3 features on both — have a read through, and of course have a look at our website for their full schedules and bios on Doug’s page and Cory’s page. And there’s also lots of other great material in that February issue, including a feature on our new tours for 2018. Enjoy!

Private tours: plan your own

Want to organize your own tour with a group of special birding friends and one of our staff guides? We regularly put together just such private departures for groups of 8 or more, and they are invariably a big hit. Here’s an example of an illustrated triplist from one such recent tour, a wonderful Australia survey with guides John Coons and Rose Ann Rowlett. You can start planning your group’s next great birding trip — just contact our office.

Comments from our travelers

Your post-tour comments on our evaluation form help us ensure that we offer the best possible tour experience and service, in the field and from our office.

“This Guyana tour was even better than I had anticipated. Megan Crewe was everything I could want in a guide. Superior knowledge of birds and the habitats we visited. Friendly, a people person. She was always in good humor. She was prepared for whatever might arise and seemed confident to do whatever needed to be done to ensure that we all had a quality experience. The tour manager and the office staff at Field Guides were very helpful all along the way.” L.N., GUYANA 2017

“The group experience was very good. I liked the size of the group and the knowledge and friendship that we shared. Willy Perez was an amazing guide and made the experience welcoming and fun. He worked very well with Oscar, the Sacha Lodge guide. Tour manager Ruth Kuhl in your office was very helpful and made sure that I had everything prepared…this was my first birding tour experience.” D.W., AMAZONIAN ECUADOR: SACHA LODGE 2017

“This was an excellent experience. The people who made up the rest of our group were very congenial. The accommodations were very comfortable, and the food was great. Oh, and lest I forget: our guides John Coons and Danilo were knowledgeable, patient, and charming.” A.W., PANAMA’S CANOPY LODGE 2016

Tour openings: late February to June

Field Guides Birding Tour to CAPE MAY

The pulse of spring migration at one of North America’s premier hotspots, plus the phenomenon of Red Knots stopping over to feast on horseshoe crab eggs, as above in guide Tom Johnson’s image, are the focus of our Spring in Cape May tour, when Tom will be joined by Doug Gochfeld. There are four spaces open and dates are May 14-20. See our 2016 triplist here for all the highlights from that tour.
