Richard Webster

Richard Webster and Rose Ann Rowlett live between tours in a refurbished home in Portal, Arizona. Richard claims that his heart is in the American tropics, oscillating rapidly between the Andes and Amazonia, but his frequent and enthusiastic journeys to other continents betray his love for birds and birding everywhere.

A much-neglected manuscript on southern California's birds remains sadly neglected because he keeps "playing" farther afield. Current preoccupations are still a re-re-re-recurring drought (more than a decade despite the occasional monsoon flash flood), pampering Rose Ann in her retirement, and playing with the trail camera that reveals the Gray Foxes, Black Bears, Bobcats, and Mountain Lions that traverse the yard overnight. When he's not looking for birds in his yard, Richard will be looking for them with you in Colombia, Bhutan, and Ethiopia.

Richard's Upcoming Tours

COLOMBIA: CALI ESCAPE: CLOUD FORESTS OF THE CENTRAL & WESTERN ANDES
Nov 18-27, 2017 with Richard Webster & local guide
Cloud forests of two Colombian cordilleras and their rich assortment of hummingbirds and tanagers are highlights of this Thanksgiving Escape across the Caribbean to tropical Colombia. Starting in Cali and exiting through Manizales and Bogota, we will use several good city hotels and one simple ecotourism lodge primarily to access Andean forests, but also dry woodland, marshes, and the paramo.
May be combined with Colombia: The Llanos & More
COLOMBIA: MEDELLIN ESCAPE: ANDES & VALLEYS
Feb 3-12, 2018 with Richard Webster & local guide
Rich forests from the foothills to treeline are accessed from good country hotels and comfortable ecotourism lodges at some of Colombia's best private reserves. Many Colombian endemics expected, but the tour is primarily an opportunity to gorge on the birds of the Andes after a short flight across the Caribbean.
COLOMBIA: SANTA MARTA ESCAPE
Feb 24 - Mar 4, 2018 with Richard Webster & Cory Gregory
An easier subset of "Bogota, the Magdalena Valley & Santa Marta," reached by a direct flight from Miami, and with a couple more days for a more leisurely approach.
BHUTAN
Apr 7-26, 2018 with Richard Webster & Megan Edwards Crewe
Spellbinding birding amidst awe-inspiring landscapes on a journey through the lush forests and mountains of this culturally fascinating Himalayan kingdom.
