California's Yellow-billed Magpie...

In the lower 48, you can count on one hand the endemic birds confined to just one state, the lovely Yellow-billed Magpie among them. This attractive species is found only in the interior and coastal valleys and foothills of central California and is one of the birds we make a special effort to see well on our Slice of California tours, among the 200+ other species to be encountered along our route. Yellow-billed Magpie is in the genus Pica, which includes the more familiar Black-billed Magpie, widespread across western North America, and Eurasian Magpie, a bird with a huge Old World range and 12 subspecies with small variations in their appearance across Eurasia and northern Africa.

We have two departures of this itinerary in 2018, the first Sep 6-15 with Chris Benesh guiding, the second Sep 11-20 with Tom Johnson at the helm. We have at least two spaces currently still open on Chris's tour and one space currently on Tom's tour.

You can view our 2017 illustrated triplists at the links below. They will give you a great taste of last year's tours.
