Argentina Overview & Highlights

On our Northwestern Argentina birding tour, we explore lush Yungas forests, arid inter-Andean valleys, and high-altitude lakes of the Altiplano, where you'll seek Brushland Tinamou, Andean and James's flamingos, Andean Condor, Red-faced Guan, and the endemic Tucuman Mountain-Finch--all set against dramatic mountain scenery. The Gran Chaco's thorny woodlands and Tucuman's grassy slopes add even more regional specialties, such as Black-legged Seriema.

On our Southern Argentina itinerary, we venture to the Pampas for grassland species like Greater Rhea, South American Painted-Snipe, and Scarlet-headed Blackbird, then continue to Chubut Province's arid scrub and the famed Valdez Peninsula, where you can witness thousands of Magellanic Penguins, Snowy Sheathbills, and even Southern Right Whales. In Patagonia and on Tierra del Fuego, we search for Magellanic Woodpecker, Yellow-bridled Finch, and Austral Pygmy-Owl amid beech forests and Andean peaks, with a scenic boat trip on the Beagle Channel offering encounters with seabirds, cormorants, and Black-browed Albatrosses.

On our Birds & Wine tour we travel to both Chile and Argentina, traveling from Viña del Mar to Mendoza for some great birding combined with visits to vineyards and wine-tasting for the oenophile in you.
